A Winter Classique

January 13, 2020

Making blueberry pancakes for Shelby at 7am so I abandoned the band with the burden of carrying the large bags of currency earned from "The Pederson Side" t-shirt sales. I am sorry to local fans for leaving the autograph line so early, I will soon sign your lamps and rakes, but I have very important pancakes to make.

The secret green-room top-shelf bathrooms only had ‘air’ dryers, a huge problem for drunk zombie imposters trying to wipe shitty, sweaty makeup off their necks and faces, before their favourite band graces the local stages. Big wads of toilet paper saved us, and the ‘real’ Corps filled the room with a thousand smiling faces.

A guy was wearing a Pittsburg Pirates hat and I thought at first that it could have been Rich Lowe, or even Marty, but it was neither. Then later I hugged the ‘real’ Rich Lowe, wearing the same hat. Strange times in the local scene, you guys.

Had a cool thought on the train. I hug and hang with the people in this punk community more than anyone else. Outside the fam, of course. It’s a unique and special thing. Liquor, loud music, yelling, and a hint of universal kindness towards everyone else. Real gross. But the path of life is best paved by the people who you hug the most. Take the ride, enjoy the toast.

(18 hours later)

I now return to this post, on Sunday night, with sore knees and strange flashbacks. “Write drunk, edit sober.” -Hemingway. Made surprisingly few edits, considering the contamination of the post-show monster who sat here so soon ago. Red wine is the ultimate pain killer, that I know.

Nothing much more to add except thanks for reading, and thanks for supporting local artists doing their favourite thing. It was packed in there last night before 7:30pm and even the staff seemed stunned. Pretty early for long liquor lines of weird people leaving lavish tips. And seeing lead singers dressed like other lead singers kissing Russian men on the lips.

Until next time my loves,

Handshakes, high-fives, hugs.
