A cool thing about Abbotsford is the ability for 20 artists and friends to drink 200 beers in the parking lot across the street from an upstairs music school hosting an all-ages punk show above a (still-existing) movie rental store. There was never the slightest threat of military interference. We were polite, as artists are, and bagged our empties accordingly. We offered a fun punk show upstairs in the sweet-spot, and an incredible jack-pot for the morning can-finder in the parking-lot.
When the Reds pulled up, Ken was in a cage in the back. His eyes wide with a quiet insanity. Like a dog before the bark. And they delivered him like the raptor at the start of Jurassic Park. And, as the story goes, he broke free, and tore a vicious strip across the land, singing songs on stage with every band.
It was a fun night in the valley. It's always cool to explore the world like a real touring band. Thanks to everyone for making my stagette so grand. OMG u guyz!
***24 HOURS LATER***
Well…my wedding day was magical. I wore white, and we did it right. Very traditional, just like our families wanted. Full of gasps and wows. And what better place to exchange our vows…than SBC.
I love SBC, and I love Malcolm, and all the staff, but that downstairs dungeon has serious demons. Weird spells have been cast down there. I always feel the eyes of madness preying upon me while I change into various weird costumes in the darkness of that downstairs pit. My backpack will forever smell like it.
But, as usual, SBC delivers. Another great show by all bands, thanks to the greatest local fans. Thank you, again. You are the shit. Without a crowd, we have no hit. However the 5 bands have now realized that we could probably do this all by ourselves…and get even weirder with it…no...stop...sit.
My final compliments:
-Reds making BReds is one of the greatest marketing ploys these virgin eyes have ever seen.
-Shockload did the best job of diversifying their 2 setlists, plus they were the overall tightest band, as usual.
-Anteater won the weekend with the crowd-singing insanity of Jacks Hill. Even kissing Pederson on the lips wasn't enough to meet the intensity and power in the room at that moment.
-The Corps...well, they have Ronnie.
This 2-night tour across 2 cities made the 5 bands even tighter as friends. While reminding us of the monsters that exist within our city-limits. Let the next time be even bigger and better and dig deeper into the weirdness of our weather.
Weddings really bring people together.
