SBC

Let's start this story at 2:17am, shall we?

Just took the best 2am shower of my entire life. It felt like a waterfall after a sandy beach on a sunny day. A scientist should investigate my ability to perspire out 7 beers on stage, and end up sorta-sober on the side of a half-pipe in the lost levels of Tony Hawk 2. A weird thing happened to me: Like a well-soaked sponge, with a quick squeeze, I was free.

When we got there, to SBC, the indoor-skatepark/concert-venue/salvation-spot, deep in the heart of East Van, 2 kids were rippin' shit up on the rippin' skateboard ramp. And when the older of the 2 kids was leaving, my friend Malcolm, the owner, asked him if he was coming back tomorrow, and the kid said no. Slow down kid. I felt the older brother vibe fill the room. Kid said he couldn't come tomo cause he had a street hockey tournament. Okay then kid. SBC is in a very unique neighbourhood. And every unique neighbourhood needs people like Malcolm who lets kids hang out in a safe and supportive place. His operation made me feel globally inferior, but I did give the younger kid a YBI sticker and a free CD.

I'll start this part of the story by saying that no man is better than any other man. But, Limo was a part of NOFX for over 20 years, so he is way better than both you and me. He played on Conan. He slayed the green dragon. He rode the bus with the best. It's fun to get excited about celebs. I really wasn't sure how the whole 'Limo being there and me being fan-boy drunk' was gonna go, but it went down so smooth. Got the photo with him right away and warned him about me later. He was super chill, just a drummer stoked to play a show, and holy shit he hits drums hard. At practice on Tuesday we discussed the possibility of playing Linoleum, and asking him to sing it. Could it happen? It would likely depend on the vibe of the evening. Luckily the show was in a special place with sweet bands and supportive friends. Let us hope.

Garrison grabbed me after the show (sexually) and we drank to the progress of our expanding scene. Once I got the sunglasses off and the beautiful blond hair out of my eyes, I was humbled and happy to see members of bands I love in the crowd. Plus many other regular friends and lovers and Russian Radio DJ's. Thank you for your continued support of our mutual fun. Thanks to Obscene Being, ATD, and Modern Terror for 3 equally killing sets. Thanks to Malcolm and everyone at SBC. And special thanks to Limo, for giving us a memory that we will yell about on watery nights and messy mornings for many years to come.
